What is the New Member Process?

The New Member process is a 6 week course all new members must take in order to be initiated into Alpha Sigma Tau. New Members will learn National and Local information and will be required to pass a the National New Member exam at the end of their New Member Process. Sound overwhelming? Don't worry! To help prepare for the exam, there will be weekly quizzes to help you learn all of the rich history of Alpha Sigma Tau!

But there's more to the New Member process than knowing National and Local information! Each New Member will be partnered up with a Big Sister as both a mentor and friend. Each New Member also gets a Shooting Star, very similar to a Secret Santa, who leaves you little gifts and encouraging notes throughout your process. She is revealed at the end of your 6 week journey!

We also have Uncle Charlie's Night, where awards are handed out and we get together to enjoy dinner. We have a Progressive Dinner where there are four stops at different sisters houses and New Members enjoy a four course meal! We have fun activities at our New Member Sleepovers where we kick back and relax and spend the night eating snacks and playing fun games.

New Member Dues

Like any organization, we have New Member Dues. This semester (Spring 2011), they are $325. It might sound like a lot, but New Member Dues go towards a variety of things: It helps pay for Chapter Insurance. That allows us to get together and participate in things such a Homecoming, Greek Week, Formal, etc. Greek organizations at EUP are required have insurance. Dues also go to National Headquarters, Local fees (budget for Chapter Officers/Staff and to attend National Convention/RLW), and most importantly, your badge. Once you become initiated, members receive a gold and enamel badge (a pin) to wear proudly.

Zero-Tolerance on Hazing

Alpha Sigma Tau takes a zero tolerance position on hazing. It is illegal in the state of Pennsylvania and it does not happen in our organization. Hazing doesn't earn respect or teach anybody a lesson.
